Prayer

Spirit: Good evening. I am known as Paul.

When I was on earth I was Father Paul. Needless to say I didn’t earn that title. I was given the authority to teach people to pray. Unfortunately, I realise now, that you cannot really teach people to pray. You can teach them a rote system, but that prayer means little.

Prayer as I understand it now must come from the heart, and one does not pray for one’s self other than perhaps in time of sickness, or great stress. Prayer is not, “Give me this”, “Give me that”, in fact prayer should be lifted out of the physical. We can ask for help for others on earth, but we all forget that life is eternal. We should pray, (or think of, “Send love”, that is better than thinking ‘praying’), to those we love, to those we have known, and to those that we have intensely disliked. I don’t like to use the word ‘Hate’.

We may not have known them personally, they may not have lived in our time… think for example, for one, Napoleon. To people of England he was a hated enemy, to France, for a while he lifted them up and he was their God. So one group while he was on earth, prayed for him to be free and to help them, while the others prayed that he would remain in prison – but who prays for him now? Who thinks of that man who lived a long time ago and still does!

Your thoughts of love and kindness and help should be eternal, not necessarily to individuals. Perhaps you may think of a period of time and send love and compassion in thoughts, to those people. It may be hard to picture them, particularly if you go back as far as the cave man, but you have an idea what it was like. “Where is that man today?” “Has he progressed?” “Has he progressed past being a caveman”? He certainly is most unlikely to be living in a cave now, but his soul, his thinking may be still of that time. He needs the help of, for want of a better term, ‘enlightened’ people, who can think of everyone, expanding their own thinking, their own souls, to encompass the universe. Life eternal… it’s a vast field for us to think on!

If you don’t want to go back in history it’s understandable, as you would perhaps say that its too mind boggling, that you cannot associate yourselves with those times long gone… but those people are still around. They are still marching on like you are.

But if it is any easier, by all means think of people of your lifetime, not only your relatives or your friends, but others, including others that you dislike because they need, perhaps more than your own relatives do, the thoughts of compassion that you can send them. If they have done, for want of a better word, evil on earth, they are very much in need, because they are struggling through an adjustment time.

Every thought of love, compassion, goodness that you can send out, not only helps the people who are on earth, but it helps those who have passed on. We realise that it is a concept that is hard to appreciate, but try and adjust your thinking, expand your souls.

As for prayer, you do not have to get down on your knees, you do not have to pray at a given time, you do not have to repeat what you have been taught, just put into words your thoughts for those people, whom you are wanting to help. It will have far more effect, than rapidly running off some prayer that you have learned by rote.

Spirit: Expansion of your thinking, of your mind, is important. Try and encompass what you are part of, and the more good thought you can send out, even if it only takes you a few seconds, will help, it helps everyone and it helps you, in expanding your soul.

I have enjoyed being able to speak to you, because it has worried me, that I have taught so many people the wrong way, and it is wonderful to have the opportunity once more, to perhaps help people on the right way, of prayer.
