Chapter One - Passing Over

Attitudes towards ‘Death’.

Now follows an interesting explanation by Ling, about the wisdom of us giving a little thought to the subject of death, and to think of it as going on a journey, and of being prepared.

Spirit Ling): Greetings.

Sitters: Greetings Ling.

Spirit: I think our talk this morning could possibly be called ‘Attitudes’.  Now bear with me, if it seems long winded, in so much as I want you to be able to get this same point across.

Now, in our imaginations we are preparing for a holiday, a change in our life, perhaps even considering a shift from one country to another, and to do this one prepares one’s self; for example if it is a train journey we are usually aware of the route we are going to take. So that when we go roaring into a tunnel, we do it with anticipation of that particular part of the journey and of what we are going to see on the other side.

Now that would apply, whether it’s on a car journey where you may not likely go through a tunnel but may climb a great hill, or in a boat where you are going from one country to another, or also by plane where you are leaving terra firma and going into the clouds, perhaps to come down somewhere totally different. For this you are prepared. If you aren’t, I think you would agree that you’re rather foolish.

So, as you are now, the greatest journey you can see before you, is the one you call ‘Death’. Now, is it not sensible to prepare for this journey? And this can be done in a number of ways.

You can read a vast amount of literature, and make sure that it is on a wide variety of religions, thoughts, and philosophies… and no doubt from that, you as an individual, will decide what you are comfortable with. So you have come perhaps, to believe that there is something, after what you call ‘death’. Right, that’s a starting point, but you can be more prepared than that.

As you people realise, what you do now, is like a garden. You plant the seeds by your thoughts and your actions, and over your lifetime these mature. So when you take that journey that is waiting for you when you climb your mountain, go through your tunnel, journey in your boat, or fly your plane... is the results of what you have sown!

So you can go on your journey, screaming with fright, fighting the whole way because you are unprepared; you can go knowing that there is something but you don’t know what, questioning; and you can go with a feeling of light-heartedness, knowing no doubt that you have made mistakes. You perhaps have thought things wrongly, you have not always been just or kind, but on the whole you have done your best, so isn’t it exciting! Look forward to what you have sown.

We feel that if you can talk to someone like that, it may lighten their hearts, particularly if within a reasonable time, they may be facing their own journey.

If they are frightened because they have done terrible things in this life, explain that they have to pay - we all do for our mistakes; but if they are sincerely sorry, and understand what they have done, then they will get a lot of help, and it won’t be that bad. Because there is light, and joy, and glory, for every person, no matter their colour, their nationality, what hemisphere they come from or whatever... it’s there for everyone!

And that journey, is called, ‘death’.

Is there anything either of you would like to question, that would make it easier perhaps to tell someone?

Sitter: Well I’ve got a brother in law who unfortunately had to go through the Burma War against the Japanese, and he said he had to kill, and he is terrified of the thought of death. I don’t know what to say to him.

Spirit: He is terrified for what he has done?

Sitter: Yes.

Spirit: He must forgive himself. What he did, was his way of saving other people from having to kill or be killed. If you could point out to him, that under the laws of his land and for the safety of his people, he had to do this dreadful thing which mankind caused. But as an individual, if he can now forgive himself and in his heart ask the forgiveness of those he killed ... there is only one person really that can forgive him, and that’s himself. It may give him peace of mind if you can point out, that as an individual in circumstances like that, he cannot be completely blamed. He may have had great hatred in his heart at the time. If he has overcome that hatred, he is well under way. If the hatred is still there, he must try and overcome that too.

Sitter: Thank you Ling, I’ll do my best to explain to him.

Spirit: And you sir?

Sitter (2): I think I understand what you are saying, but I do wonder whether greater emphasis perhaps, could be put on the fact that the joy, and the happiness, that are at the end, need to be earned and are not there just for everybody, as of right.

Spirit: I hope I explained that. Perhaps you will see it when you read what you type - it has been put I believe, we believe, in a simple way. The only thing that I feel perhaps we have left out, is that there is joy and happiness certainly, but we still continue to work for it.

I think you would have to judge exactly how far you take your talk, by the individual you are speaking to.   Some people you may not even have to talk to about a journey, you maybe able to go straight to the point... “When you leave this body and assume your spiritual state - which you are now, although you cannot conceive of it”, they will understand. Others will not. But it is a good idea to have something in your mind, should the situation occur.

When you are asked, or you see the opportunity to give help to someone, you yourself should not be floundering... “How can I explain this?” So that is why we try to give you an example that may possibly help.

Sitter: Thank you Ling. It is of great help.

Spirit: We cannot guarantee... mankind makes his own path... but it is possible in the foreseeable future that you people, and others like you, will have the opportunity to pass on your knowledge to a wider field. We certainly hope so, and will be behind you every step of the way.

Blessings on you, and on your teachings too, should you get that opportunity.

Good morning.
